Quiet now, places
harbouring my memories –
river dreamcatcher –
nostalgia floats on swan’s back
past bridges linking time lapsed.

These shackles may be but illusions
but the conditioning lingers –
I’m not enough
lack the look
the chic
fall short of acceptable
Add age and I am
forever sentenced
to monachopsis –
an outsider,
circling.

Immersed in trauma
I excel – bleed compassion
Can cut to the chase
employ know-how
Remain cheerful
whilst inhaling paranoia
Determined to connect
square the issues
But offer me kindness
touch with intent
and I will withdraw
gingerly inept
unaccustomed as I am
to Love’s cosmos.

Bound to this saudade –
the agony of knowing
I let you go, rejected
a love so pure –
the road has been long
pitted with heartache
you, my greatest regret.

He polishes chrome
while she shuffles Tarot
Luck temporarily
suspended by edicts
Life in limbo highlights
the chasm – incommunicado
They maintain distance
choking on tension
Define this as home…

I crave orange –
not the shade of deceit
oozing in political corners
I seek fiery tones
the hues of transformation
the promise beyond this cocoon.

Youth flaunts her truth
serious in convictions –
that eternity exists
that words carry worth
Folly naturally succeeds
break down – inevitable
the opportunity to learn –
silent, age considers action.

Two mothers were we
frozen in disbelief
as smoke rose
Cried for the losses
for our children
for a future devoid
of peace
Two mothers
hand-in-hand
shattered
A Christian
and a Muslim
War destroys all dreams.

I farm reflection
plant seeds of wrath, soil black –
insatiable words
nurtured by mind-storms and rays
of passing enlightenment.

Happiness, he says,
is your responsibility
and then…
If you love me enough…
If you showed more appreciation…
If you lost a little weight…
and…
Clearly, not my problem.
Really?
Is it always just me?
