Bound to this saudade –
the agony of knowing
I let you go, rejected
a love so pure –
the road has been long
pitted with heartache
you, my greatest regret.

I felt this, which is the mastery of your poetry. I know the feeling, and maybe I’m always worried it will return again soon. Can you have many greatest regrets, I wonder?

Can’t speak for different individuals, but I do know that most have “the one that got away”. For me, I would say is two and a half, lol.

Your poem of saudade is exquisite. I first learned of saudade from a Portugese colleague who shared a video of a saudade song that left me weeping.

Absolutely. Easy to look back and think it would be all wonderful – I think that is called fantasy.

Beautiful and sad! Losing or letting go of people never go away from our minds!

The one that got away…always leaves us wondering if things would really have been any better. Your poem captures that feeling well.

I imagine we all suffer this – part sentimental, part destructive. Thanks Heather.
