But What Do I Know?

But What Do I Know?

Here are some observations and thoughts from current events: The irony: the chaos he’s creating appears to be a product of his own mental decline. What’s left to pick up the pieces, I will need to ponder further. What did I miss?

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.

Heart Frozen

Heart Frozen

Analysis freezes heart,
I leap with reservations,
engage in familiar pacts,
motivations logical,
observe patriarchal parlay –
seduced by original sin –
settle into compromise.

Magic Sunshine

Magic Sunshine

Sunshine, you magician,
adding sparkle to my view,
painting the cloudless sky
a dazzling shade of blue –
favoured by your golden rays
we all take on a glowing hue.

(Tuesday, I will borrow a poem from Twitter.  Visit me @Vjknutson)

On the Lake

On the Lake

Mist precedes morning light
rises off summer warmed lake
the loon’s call floating on a breeze –
forever a cherished slice of life.

(For Reena’s Exploration Challenge, Ragtag Community’s: breeze, and Fandango’s One Word Challenge: mist.  Image from personal collection.)

Promised

Promised

What life tears apart
nature mends – cyclical flow,
divinely decreed.

(For RonovanWrites Weekly Haiku Challenge: rip/mend)

Sanctuary

Sanctuary

Make blanket of green bough
our secret sanctuary – eden –
as squirrels watch
and animals rustle,
feel the purely bucolic,
leave cloudy noon,
come & give,
don a shine.

(Fridays are for Magnetic Poetry online.  Give it a try.  Image from personal collection.)

Contrasts

Contrasts

Contrasts, life presents –
focus on the light,
I tell myself,
eyes wandering to dark corners
been up against too many brick walls
to harbour simplicity in faith,
besides, darkness holds the light
we inevitably all follow.

(Image from personal collection.)

Duplicity

Duplicity

Evil dons a political mask,
puppetry performed
with carefully construed phrases,
public favour swayed…
and as a final ruse
deploys duplicitous vestments
declaring divinity onboard.

(For Willow Poetry’s What Do You See? challenge: image as prompt.)

Even Colourless, Still a Flower

Even Colourless, Still a Flower

The softness of petals,
such a glorious curve,
even colourless, floral
fragrance has verve –

soft pink bloom bw
orange and bold bw

For Cee’s Black & White Photo Challenge:  Flower of any kind.

End the Fray

End the Fray

This breach –
this ever-widening gap
fear induced
pits us
against them
as if humanity
can be divided
salvation
a selective process.

We need a balm
to soothe societal
wounds, a tonic
to calm the angst
until clarity
quells the uproar
and kindness
replaces this sin.

(For Ragtag Community’s prompt: balm, and Fandango’s: gap.)

I’d Finish This Poem, but…

I’d Finish This Poem, but…

Bright day –
hope breezes
through open window

sparrow lights
on windowsill
espies me cock-eyed

What wonders
keep you inside?
he queries

I sputter…
lacking adequate
response

pardon me
for abandoning…
have another call.
