Mediation

“Just like your father!”
Words that chill me
to my core, bile
and self-loathing
follow

I abhor ego –
its need
its pandering
its petulance

Would skin
and exile
the beast
but, alas

Self absent
interface
cannot deal with
what remains

So I wrestle
with the father bits
and bolster the tried –
ego negotiation

Brain on Fire

My mind is ablaze –
ideas churning
vying for recognition –

greed is ego’s bane
hogs the spotlight
but other thoughts stir

gentler, more insightful –
will remain in shadow
till a quorum empowers
artful expression.

Accustomed to the Dark

Nine months of incubation –
dark, watery womb of life –
emerge to blinding brightness,
learn to covet the light –
yet our soul struggles, defies
ego’s hold on certainty –
fights against conformity,
draws us back to the tomb –
deep into the mysteries,
where discomforted, challenged
we grow accustomed to the dark.
