Imagine Bridges

Connections, like bridges,
run between us –
no matter how subtle –
nations and individuals;
there is no divide

Imagine if we acted
on this knowledge –
mindful and kind –
not subtle the outcome,
I should think.

Captivated by bridges
connection previously
assumed impossible

A grandchild’s love
the loyalty of a dog
the kinship of writers

I watch life pass by
flash on sorrow, till
bridges restore peace.

The gap widens –
the life I’d envisioned
washed away by current
reality – widening span.

I need a bridge –
expansive enough
to carry wishes,
to facilitate movement
of passing ideals,
allow for traffic flow.

Or a bridge to slow me down,
help me re-align, directing
me toward a new road,
encompassing change.
