Cracking the Code

Adept at uprooting,
conditioned to follow chaos –
know my place there.

Kindness unsettles –
each ray piercing
cracking the crust

unleashing a prism
both painful and joyous –
legacy of dysfunction.

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.

  1. It’s exhausting to adapt new places and the ever-changing inner and outer bodies of ours. It’s a blessing to be able to accept and adjust. At least it’s my story.

Thank you for sharing this poem, V.J.!

  2. This poem’s truth breaks through the posturing facades we learn to wear growing up in malevolent dysfunction. When you said “Kindness unsettles” it is so true. I had to grow into accepting kindness as something I love to be, give, and receive! Your brilliance at work yet again! 🙂 ❤

  3. Yes, this is a powerful poem. Powerful message…”know my place there…” It is so exhausting trying to find that new place. I like the photo you chose for this post too.
