Neglect?

Was it neglect
that rendered us
so useless?
joints collapsing,
minds scattering
movement minimal…

That which we no longer tend to
loses lustre – less profit to reap

When we store our dreams in corners –
time usurping promises,
visions asleep –
the fallout is too steep

Cherishment is what is needed
for self, for hopes, for all life.

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.

  1. Beautiful poem and beautifully read. The painting is wonderful. Yes, we must cherish even the smallest of things and gently lift the dreams from the corners of our hearts and minds.

  3. Very true, all this! Why do we stash our dreams? Or fail to take action? So easy to remain on idle, rather than stepping on the gas. Like those buildings, neglect leads to decay.

  4. “When we store our dreams in corners,” I love that image but regret that I sometimes do it. It’s easy to blame it on age or circumstance. I love the poem.
