Beneath the willow
a young woman dreams
Harlequin romance
in hand – portrait of
stormy-eyed perfection
Innocence luxuriates
in spicy dreams, awaits
love’s sweeping encounter –
hormones not yet bearing
the bruises of disappointment.

Beautifully stated love turmoil and gorgeous picture!

Transports me decades back to my Mills & Boon and Harlequin paperback days!
Love how the images allude to a deeper meaning.

Oh, to be that innocent and never encounter those last two lines. Another of your poems that really hits home with me.

A woman’s quest is defined poetically. Neat and simple. Love it.
