Lockdown Tanka

A grackle shimmers
sun highlighting blue – my mood
queer melancholy –
absent knocks, talks, minutiae
remains discomforting din.

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.

  1. I love the grackle photo. He’s quite striking against the blurred yellow background. “Queer melancholy” and “discomforting din” are perfect to describe this surreal state of existence we find ourselves in.
