Fluid

Oh, the fluidity
Of childhood days

Splashing and skipping along
The path meandering, directionless

When does life acquire edges
Doors and hallways hindering?

Led by asphalt and time clocks
Obligations too numerous to count.

My own body has become a cell
Movement stiffened, mind rigid

It’s those childhood memories
Soul ingrained, keep me fluid.

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.

  1. ‘My own body has become a cell… It’s those childhood memories / Soul ingrained, keep me fluid.’—what a deeply moving, resonant reflection, VJ! The contrast between adult rigidity and childhood freedom is expressed so beautifully here.
