I dream that I am teaching again, and having assigned the class independent work, I am spending time connecting with each student to see if they are grasping the material. It’s my favourite part of teaching, and I wake up wondering if I’ll ever have that feeling again. So rewarding.
It is bittersweet, growing old. Many of life’s goals have been achieved, and yet, the desire for more still exists. At least, it does for me. I’m just not sure what to do about it.

You are so right about the best part of teaching, VJ. I never cease to get a thrill out of witnessing learning occurring first-hand. It never gets old!

I’m in the same boat, VJ. writing and reading help: I am passionate about both and am greedy to push my boundaries; gym and walking keep my body pliant and a small circle of friends and family, my social needs; I very much am nourished by living alone —

That’s the secret, I think. The social aspect is important.

Ah, VJ. I love your reflections. Might it be true that you’re achieving more…in less tangible ways? By sharing yourself with us? Appreciate you! 💝💝💝

What a sweet response, Victoria. It is all perspective, isn’t it?

If you were living in a third world country, you could have taught poor kids for free. But I suppose in Canada there won’t be any such kids

That would be rewarding, Sadje.

Very true my friend. I believe education is a game changer- it can not only improve the life of one person, but of his/ her entire family and coming generations.

For me it has been pursuing all those interests that fit with my limited physical abilities, which I have never before had time for: writing, photography, reading, and reviewing.

There is that, Derrick. I am grateful to be able to do those things too.

I am set to retire next year (started my teaching career later in life), and although I look forward to time to pursue other interests, I can’t help feeling there will be a hole in my life.

I still dream about it regularly. Retirement is good though too.
