When Love Fails

Slammed by expectations
silenced by your rage
the hero in me exhausted

I can’t make it right, my love
when communication is forbidden
and the voices in your head
hold us both hostage

I’m clinging to memories
resolved to leave here
integrity intact
identity intact

The mayhem in your words
has cut the ties –
I know where I stand
mental health at stake

I’m setting my intention
walking away –
will find my own footing
and hope you don’t forget

That love always holds answers
and despite my somber exterior
the back door to my heart
is always open

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.

  1. I hear you, One. It’s clear that you’re grappling with some deep emotions, and it’s completely valid to feel overwhelmed when love takes such a challenging turn. The struggle with communication can be isolating, and it sounds like you’ve navigated a difficult path with grace. Walking away to protect your mental health is a courageous decision, and I admire your commitment to holding onto your integrity and identity. Remember, even when things seem dim, the door to healing and love can always reopen.

    Stay strong.

  2. I sense a distance from the emotion “resolved to leave here” “I’m setting my intention”. Sometimes we have to just do what we know is right and setting that distance helps us follow through.
