Spinning

Circling,
dancing,
caught between
idealism of expectation
and harshness of reality –
one has lofty goals,
the other invites limitation

I’ve excuses aplenty –
none that assuage ambition
Incomplete work dangles
from spider web threads
waiting for rescue

Talking to myself
unavailing – best
step out of this dichotomy
stop the whirling

(Sketch my own)

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.

  1. I love these dichotomies that you express in this poem – even if you do want to step out of them. Loved the lines, “Incomplete work dangles / from spider web threads”. What a lovely way to express what is constantly inevitable in our lives.

  2. Good morning, VJ, I clicked through to your website to see the full piece of art. It is gorgeous! I especially love the lady (you) in the bottom left corner. Her hair piece is very cleverly done to look like a crown, but on closer examination, I see it is a crown of flowers growing. Right now I’m in the process of making the leap from organic artist to computer artist. I’m excited about the possibilities when I see the mediums available to me. 🙂 Anyway, I love your words and images.
