Forgive the dance –
it’s what I do –
step forward,
slide back,
shuffle, then
lose the rhythm
and start again.
Reaching forward
heart securely tucked,
something embedded –
cellular perhaps –
invites the struggle
and so, I dance –
yesterday, a warrior
today the fool
tomorrow only knows
multi-faceted,
roughly cut,
a gem
of an undefined hue
I will always try again.

Dance it out, dance on, always dance! Wonderful piece on the effort to move past adversity, VJ. Gorgeous image too! The colors are exciting. π

I am visiting family in FL and the internet connection is very slow. So I read the poem before seeing the lovely photo of the heron. I just love this poem, VJ. It reminds me of the oh so many dance rehearsals I participated in, but also so much of my growing up years (in which I am still participating!). Great analogy, and then I see the photo and it multiplied my love for this poem.

“I will always try again”…the trick is to never lose this spirit. And I agree with Heather, more sway.

This is lovely, VJ. I like both- the poem and the picture of the heron. The short sentences give the poem a tempo that only adds to the sense of courage spelt out here.

Sometimes we are so hard on ourselves. If only we’d give ourselves more sway! Love the metaphor.
