Invisibility is undesirable
I am flesh craving
in a touchless world
A voice yearning
to be heard, a heart
to listen – compassion
growing cold. This side
of the table intolerable
how long will we continue
Till the rage in me ignites
sets your paper walls aflame
and will you even notice?
(For Reena’s Exploration Challenge: feature image is prompt.)
This is true of many marriages. The last stanza is excellent!

Really good lines: “I am flesh craving / in a touchless world”; “This side

Oh wow… I love this. Reminds me of the corona-inspired lockdown situation and the way people are burning through imagined “paper” walls with textual interactions, online…
Beautifully written.

Such subtle ways to disconnect, almost more of a slap in the face then, just hearing someone say I don’t want to be here anymore.

Definitely a slap to the psyche!

Both the first and last stanzas are outstanding –
Flesh craving for touch
And
will you even notice?

Your poem reminds me of Addie’s section in As I Lay Dying, that need to connect erupting into rageful lashing out.

Another literary reference I had to look up, lol. I was thinking of that classic portrait of marriage with the man hidden behind the newspaper blocking out his wife. Same idea really – what arises from that need when it is not met.

Yes, that blocking out by the husband happens in a lot of marriages, sadly.
