Bleeding Edges

Wrap myself in verdant dreams –
creaseless envelope of hope –
have written my deepest desire,
sealed the vessel shut…

meanwhile, reality oozes red,
like puss from open wounds,
creeps into careful corners,
bleeds through edges…

nothing neat about dreaming –
life demands, cuts, prods,
does not bargain – hope is fine
unless control is the container.

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.

  1. “envelope of hope” intrigues … as though one might seek out such an envelope and crawl inside, like a cave … maybe the envelope has one of those long oval windows … you could peer out at the hopeless surrounds …?

    1. It’s the image that came to me, inspiring this piece. Envelope suggests letter – like a sealed wish we send off to the Universe – so neatly transcribed and full of expectation. Interesting to read your take on it – gives me more thoughts to ponder.
