Like an orphaned tree
shivering in a coat of frost
my soul wanders
dreamless, alone
a nobody, nowhere
in the pre-dawn chill.
Beckoned by first light
body twisting wakens
Consciousness clings
to desolate slumber
then, reluctantly
reality brings me home.

A very evocative poem VJ

Lovely. I love to linger in bed when it’s cold.

Yes and it’s getting there.

That line about consciousness clinging to desolate slumber is just unforgettable. There is truly nothing quite like wanting to linger just a little longer in dream-sleep when the morning turns cold.

Yes, and in my case, waking to the reality of ongoing illness. Thanks

The image of an orphaned tree shivering in a coat of frost stayed with me, such a tender way to show a soul wandering alone before dawn. I love how the poem ends with reality gently, if reluctantly, bringing you home. 🌹

Perfect awakening poem for me this morning, given our 1st snowflurries of the season. I looked out the window, rolled over & dozed til they stopped…
