Like an orphaned tree
shivering in a coat of frost
my soul wanders
dreamless, alone
a nobody, nowhere
in the pre-dawn chill.
Beckoned by first light
body twisting wakens
Consciousness clings
to desolate slumber
then, reluctantly
reality brings me home.

These lines capture the feeling for me perfectly:
“Consciousness clings
to desolate slumber”

Perfect awakening poem for me this morning, given our 1st snowflurries of the season. I looked out the window, rolled over & dozed til they stopped…
