Like Atlas, I bear
the world’s weight
call it responsibility –
a painful delusion
requiring walls
Life has its own rhythm –
light and dark,
joyous and sorrowful –
orchestration outside
of my domain
Love, however,
is limitless
in its capacity –
open-hearted acceptance
protection in itself.
Trading one focus
for another
permits appreciation –
I vow to assert love
and forgo control.
There is definitely a difference, and as you’ve shown here…one is light; the other, not so much.

I’ve never thought of responsibility and love in quite this way before. Thank you for the insight.

I grew up “the responsible one” – thought it defined me and my ability to be loved – it’s a work in progress to let that one go. Thanks Liz.

The last two lines of the poet sums up the philosophy of love, pure surrender in it .

OMG VJ ~ students were asking me yesterday what I meant by ‘control’ in my TEDx talk and I explained the concept of LOCUS of control (interval / external) by Dr. Julian Rotter. And this is the essence of your poem. That pull / push of suffocating responsibility vs infinite possibility — that lives within each of us. The key is deciding which wolf to feed. .. ♥️ p.s. I am always transported deeper by your poems.

As always thought provoking. I enjoyed yours and Ivor20 communication – and agree that no one warned us about the ageing process….although even with warning…we would never have understood….Like all things we have to live it to know. Thank you…Janet.

You are so right, Janet. I can’t help but think that fear of growing old is what fuels the fitness market. Thanks

I like this…you are right the weight we all carry around is an unnecessary burden, why do we humans complicate everything?? Didn’t someone once say…..Love is all we need.

Have to admit, we’re good at it – complicating things, lol. Thanks.

Oh V.J. I’m not if love is that easy, my focus is blurred, and I think I’ve reached the limit … 💕

There comes an age, Ivor, where it is all blurred; I agree.
