Imitation

Pockets of light
illuminate the shore:
day submitting to dark

I trace the lines
of our passage
remembering

How winds and tides
shaped us; how carelessly
we wasted time…

Danced around
our solitudes –
imitating intimacy

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.

  1. There is a lightness to this poem. Sometimes I long for those moments that the second stanza takes me to. It seems the older we get, the more we forget to be careless with our time.
