Who Am I, If Not Responsible?

This pedestal of responsibility
elevates me out of reach,
out of touch, lumps together

Caregiver extraordinaire,
present overcrowded by
obligations, am unwell,
off topic, fed up…surely

I am other abled, have room
for more, non-martyr related –
hesitant to plan, my purpose
for being so intricately tuned

to the needs of others, should
quit while I’m ahead – silence
the noisy uncertainty, free us
all from this unhealthy game.

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.

  1. Immediately hooked me with those first 2 lines. I hope your brilliant poetry helps you cope quite a bit—I’d bet it’s hard to find time

      1. Your poetry is often relatable to my experiences, and I always love your images. (I often wonder which, if only one, photo editing software you use as you’re inspiring me to do better!) Such beautiful work.

      2. Hehe, well I often feel lost because I haven’t committed to one program and end up winging it through a few methods. All in good fun …

    1. Someone once suggested I remove it from my vocabulary and give it a rest, lol. When I fell ill and could no longer take on so much responsibility then it became a question.
