Coffee – No Thanks

Morning melee
with coffee pot –
canister escaped grip
contents scattered
clean up ensued
sharp warnings
to dogs eager
to help –
second round
forgot to empty pot
hot liquid seeping
everywhere –
I’m a tea drinker.

Need I describe more?

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.

  1. On those mornings it’s sometimes wiser to just go back to bed 🙂

They look like buildings on your neck and forehead, are you feeling like the world is on you?

  2. Oh my. This has happened to me at some point. I try to be very mindful when getting the coffee ready, which is a challenge. Otherwise I have no backup to jumpstart my brain in the morning. However, as you aptly point out…there is tea! 🙂 A fun poem all the same.

  3. I can so identify with this. A couple weeks ago, I made the morning pot, poured myself a cup, and the first taste was full of grains. The filter somehow folded down and, well, it was a pot full of coffee and grains. I poured it all out and had to rinse down the whole thing several times before I could start over. And all this without my morning cup of coffee yet. (I enjoyed your poem.)

      1. Good Morning VJ! I am feeling carefree and at peace. Thank God! (Despite the broken coffee mug from yesterday lol) I was feeling overwhelmed by all the online ‘stuff” so I took a step back from tech and a step into outdoors. My goal is to feel refreshed and recharged for when I return to the classroom this fall – whether it be online or in person. The good news is that it doesn’t take long to rediscover our connection to nature! Wishing you a day filled with ease and tea. Dr. D ☀️
