Daunting
the looming
mountainside
or the oceanside
cliffs whose ascent
mocks my limitations
Fragile,
the glint of
spidery thread,
whose expanse, though
delicate, stretches without fear
The way our income curves
downward, while
our needs
mount
Life’s slopes
precarious, demanding
inevitable, and yet we find ourselves
ill-prepared when forced to navigate them.
Yes, it’s like we’re pushed off the edge of a cliff sometimes. Love your sloping stanzas.

As I read your poem, I could feel myself “slipping” and then “dangling” from life’s slope, while the unknown lurked below. 🙂

This is a very insightful poem. I think it’s natural to believe that life’s slopes won’t happen to us.

Classic case of human exceptionalism.
It’s inevitable, yet we find ourselves ill-prepared. Beautifully written.

So true, Liz. Two more years, I would have made it to retirement. We certainly didn’t see that path dropping away. Thanks.
