Fickle, I am –
life cycles catching me
unaware, unstable –
Lessons I appreciate
opportunities to expand
heart…mind…
But this isolation
this carrel-based living
limits perspective
Still, I try.

Agreeing with Olga that “carrel-based living” is a wonderful image for how many of us are getting by these days. Nice work, V.J.

Nice. You got to keep trying, I think. That’s the key to life. Stanza 1 and 3 were great!

Thanks Benjamin. Amazing how the spirit pushes on even when the body stops moving.

Beautiful art, VJ. I’m trying to stay positive but it’s stressful to be confined. We picked up our groceries last week and I noticed many new buildings being erected just in a week’s time. I feel like my little world is growing without me. Geeez!

Such strange times. I plan many things I want to accomplish and then succumb to feeling down. I know what you mean about things changing.

Love the expression ”carrel-based living”. It pinpoints so accurately how a cloistered environment and/or physical limitations within the body can affect the possibility of fulfilling one’s potential, yet there is always hope. All one can do is keep going and relish the joyful moments when they do come. Lovely flowers. π

You have defined it well, Olga. I think we both know it. Thanks so much.

The isolation is overwhelming in so many ways. Perspective turned upside down much of the time. Timely poem.

I haven’t seen or heard the word “carrel” used since I was in college. It’s perfect metaphor for the circumscribed existence we find ourselves in.

I really like the idea that this isolation “limits perspective.” When I actually go out to the store or some other place outside my home, it is like I am seeing things with fresh eyes.

Exactly! I was just thinking that today as we went for a drive. Thanks Betty.

It is limiting…too easy to be trapped in one’s own head!
