Advocate for Wonder

I know what infinity means:
it’s one hundred plus one.

Voice of innocence
serene her sense of self
of life’s complexities.

Should borrow from her,
embrace that confidence,
but worry intervenes.

How do we preserve
the wonder of youth,
save her from cynicism?

That it is! I reply,
my smile a warm hug –
vow to be forever advocate.

(I submit this poem, inspired by my six-year-old granddaughter, to three challenges:
Ragtag Community’s, serene;  Fandango’s advocate; and Reena’s Exploration challenge.  Image from personal collection.)

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.

  1. We can learn from and be inspired so much by six-year-olds. You are blessed to have a granddaughter in your life that the universe can use for instruction and inspiration. Very encouraging poem, V.J.

  2. Wonderful photo & poem. Seamless together. So much so true here. As an advocate for their sweet innocent self confidence, we can offer strength when the cynicism arrives. Grandparents are the perfect fit for this role 🙂
