Convoluted

Teach the children to comply,
to learn by rote, to master
the art of performance

encourage them to control
the chatter, their fidgets
behave like little adults

so as adults they may
struggle for authenticity
confuse society with audience

forgo instincts for crowd
pleasing responses – wonder
at the innocence of children.

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.

    1. Yes, it’s a little blue. I loved the look he was giving me. Thing is we do need to learn to interact with others, and have social decorum, I just couldn’t help but see the irony in it. Thanks for taking time to comment.
