That Covid is no more than the flu
that Climate change is a not real
that political speak is baffle
But my body, wracked with pain
knows too much about the nuances
of viral infections…this is no cold
And I’m too old to deny
that pollution has long threatened
our ecosystems and that reckless
disregard for our Earth home
has consequences
And that discernment
seems to have gone astray
in this Social Media whirl
We need to dig deeper
if we want sustainable change
I wish I could believe
that democracy is a given-
forget the wars and sacrifices
it took to get us here-
look away while it slips….
I wish I could have faith
that God had a hand in all this
but I can’t shake the feeling
that ignorance is bliss
and I know too much

I agree, VJ.
I recently watched something that said, “We need to vote like radicals,” meaning, we should always remember that we’re putting someone in office who instantly becomes our adversary. We’re supposed to fight to have what we know is important, understanding that by just the very nature of politics, a politician is not on our side.
I know what you’ve written isn’t explicitly about politics, but it reminds me of the idea I shared. We must remember that it is our responsibility to fight for the ideas we think are important.

Interesting perspective, and I can see how it bears truth. It is not enough to be complacent. Thanks.

Wonderful poem VJ.
I hope you don’t mind, but I did that for this poem. I’ve shared the link below. If you have any issues, I’ll immediately take it down.

Wow, VJ, this is a powerful poem. I tell you these are scary times, very scary times. I often feel like I am on overload with all these imminent issues looming. Somehow it is comforting to know that others are concerned, burdened. Thank you for posting this poem. Connecting with others who feel these omens somehow brings a bit of comfort in the midst of all this tension.

Perhaps ignorance is bliss, but I would not trade it for knowledge. We’re living in a scary world. I hope your pain is better.

Sometimes, yes, ignorance is bliss. Nowadays we are exposed to too much knowledge. Mostly spread by vested interests. They know lie repeated several times, and people start to believe it. So sad. Horrifying. You expressed it so well, dear.

A thought provoking post! The mindset of conquering everything including moon and nature is a defeatist tendency that should be avoided in our own interests.

All well written and thought out. If only more people were so thoughtful and considerate — of the planet, other people, all other life. I actually am trying to look away and not watch the train crash, but that’s hard too. Can’t unsee The Ugly.

“Can’t unsee The Ugly” – you are not kidding. Doesn’t help the insomnia. Thanks Eilene.

I wish I could believe too…the nuances of our relationships with all that is alive are completely invisible to far too many of us. I admire the fact that you can name and face your fears so powerfully. (K)

Ignorance is anything but bliss, and faith is a gift you receive after you surrender, not before. And then you will know, but still always battle with what you don’t know, because the enemy of God is not flesh and blood, but spiritual principalities and powers.
I wish I could paint. ❤️🙏

As I have said to friends “we humans aren’t the brightest species in the pack” It seems we can’t learn from history, nor can we think with enough foresight to protect what we have in the present.
