Unconventional

Maudlin convention
I balk at your constraints
jettison the traditions
that propagate hate

Future is an open road
I do not hesitate –
Yes, there is uncertainty
Yes, I’ll make mistakes

Vulnerability will conquer pride
mind willing, convention I’ll shake

(Art my own)

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.

That’s sounds just right, and it’s so very well-expressed. A distinctive call to freedom and specifically to freedom of choice. Thanks for the inspiration, for the affirmation.

I’ve been rocking convention since I found I could at 16 years old … it sure works for me but be ready to cope heaps of flack. Others can’t cope we when we wont fit tidily into their boxes 🙂

  3. Younger Child and I were reading your poem and admiring your stunning artwork. We have recently had many conversations about choosing to walk our own path and doing things so differently from everyone else, so your poem really speaks to us.
