Cheer For Spring

Cheer growth –
beneath a heavy cloud cover
Canada goose passes
overhead, while I
wander

Wander –
behind a veil of rainy grey
lens poised to capture life –
swallows swoop and
rise up

Rise up –
over rushing waters, branch high,
blackbirds huddle, demand
my attention –
focus

Focus –
reveals newness: buds breaking through,
colours promising that
chilly winds disperse,
cheer growth

Cheer growth –
behind a veil of rainy grey

  8. I like this Garland cinquain. This poem lifts my spirits…so much hope. I found some more hope for spring this morning. Last fall I brought in an ivy and I had some petunias mixed in and they were still flowering. One of the petunias has held on all winter, although rather straggly and today I noticed a flower almost ready to open!! I’ve never had a petunia overwinter before.
