Louse

Self-deprecation
that louse that foils
recognition

What if I sacrificed
this invasive habit –
allowed vulnerability

Entertained possibility
of self-acceptance,
treasured what is?

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.

  1. I don’t often see the word “louse” used in poetry. It’s a particularly apt metaphor for the self-deprecation that sucks our life’s blood. Time to pluck it off!

  2. If it was easy everyone would be dancing in the streets, do we really want that? πŸ’ƒπŸ•ΊπŸ€Έβ€β™€οΈ
