Brouhaha

Public displays seldom tell-all,
Vanity figures performance called for –
a ruse to make the hordes pander.
Clearly fault lies with us, audience
fuelling rhetoric, lapping up the hate.
Give politicians their due, they deliver
souped-up enemies to satisfy our tastes.

(For Reena’s Exploration challenge, where the prompt is the line: Public figures make us hate their enemies.)

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.

  1. WOW, VJ!! First, I LOVE the word brouhaha–it always makes me chuckle. Second, everything you said was right-on…interesting how we tend to “lap up hate”, hmmm…..

    1. I was actually really struck by this on our last foray to the States – a culture revved up by hate. In Canada, we are accused of being too passive and polite, but I prefer it to the constant finger pointing.
