Tired, by Langston Hughes

(I came across this poem, and was stricken by how applicable it is to our world today. Hope my reading does it justice.)

I am so tired of waiting,
Aren’t you,
For the world to become good
And beautiful and kind?
Let us take a knife
And cut the world in two –
And see what worms are eating
at the rind.

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.

  1. I agree that this poem suits our world so well at the moment. And the worms would be an interesting to examine too. Did you choose the photo with the sunflower’s ( Ukraine) on purpose.? I suspect you did.

  2. This is an excellent suggestion and your reading was perfect! I do agree with others that we should examine for the worms and then be the change we want to see in the world. I’m naturally optimistic, so I know all this will pass.

  3. We must stop waiting for it to become anything. It’s up to us to make it what we want. Yes, cut it apart, examine, question, think, and rid ourselves of the worm. And be the goodness, kindness, and beauty for which we yearn.
