I called you.
That one time.
Poured my heart out..
such despair.
I called you.
You weren’t there.
Left a message –
garbled words
rushed to beat
the inevitable beep.
Regret immediate,
then panic –
ineradicable
this outpouring
of a lonely heart,
fantasizing.
I called you.
You didn’t answer.
You never called back.
Thank you for that.

This poem is so vulnerable and heartfelt. I’ve definitely been there. ❤️

Eek! I just posted something via IG that says, “Sometimes, people come into your life to show you what love is not.” I think that’s appropriate here.

I could feel the anxiety in this, and the relief at the end.

Hmm…good question. I did have one call from a former lover that was collect from jail. 😳.

Your words are relatable and I love this line, VJ: rushed to beat the inevitable beep. I know this feeling. And what a great, unexpected ending too.

Sometimes, we didn’t, get a chance to say goodbye to those whom we love dearly, and, we regret it, for the rest of our, lives, but, that would not be, how those we lost, want us, to, live in, their, absences…and yet, because, we didn’t get a chance, to tell those we love, how much we live them, that’s why, the, regrets, always, stay…

So much vulnerability in these lines and then – the close. I understand all too well the heartache and anguish of the poem’s speaker. Hugs.
