Soon, Winter will seal decay
beneath snowy banks
and we’ll plant ourselves
hearth side, aiming for fortitude
I shall middle myself amid
books and paints, soldier
through the desolation,
mourn for Summer’s loss.

I have never experienced so much cold. So can’t understand how you feel. It seems you have adjusted well with books and painting. Wish you happy warm days.

I’ve lived my whole life with Winter as a fact – you’d think I’d stop complaining, lol.

Gorgeous image. Like others here, the lines “middle myself among books and paints” sounds quite cozy and lovely. And hearthside as I am now is quite nice too. Like you I always mourn summers end, but now coming to enjoy the solace of winter too, when once I dreaded it.

It doesn’t snow where I live, so I love winter poetry like this. 😍

I don’t mind winter as long as it doesn’t hang around forever. Then I get grumpy.

When my parents lived in Presque Isle, Maine, winter never seemed to end.

Yes, the East Coast, especially in Canada, get prolonged Winters. We joke that they have a 2 week summer.

What?!? No interest in trudging uphill through snowbanks to jump on the toboggan & slide back down? Shame.

Now that would be a funny image!

Great contrast between the planting of summer and the planting of winter – different kind of planting. Love your poem.

Snowdays, I love! It’s the in between that is hard to maneuver through. Thanks
