Tomboy

“Brazen’s a hussy!”
heard herself say,
as bullies circled on
playground that day

“You’re a sissy!”
the sass came back,
launched herself –
a full-on attack

Pinned the biggest
to gritty concrete floor
“You’re weird!” cried the cowards
who bothered her no more.

You can’t be too much of a boy, but you have to, toughen yourself up, because if you don’t, then, they will, bully you; and, you can’t be, too, girlie either, because they would, see you as, weak and, pick on you, just the same. The societies are, making it, really hard, to fit into, our, “acceptable”, gender, roles.
