The river holds so many surprises
least of which is the sudden appearance
at water’s edge of a tall white egret –
a countenance I acquaint with Texas
and warmer climes – what wonder
to find this greatness at my backdoor.
(The Great Egret is common in coastal areas, but not a bird I have encountered in Ontario, until now. Linking up with Granny Shot It’s Bird of the Day.)
Your photo captures the elegance of the egret perfectly! I would never have imagined an egret in Ontario.

Can’t ever remember having seen one here before, although the locals say they have. Thanks Liz. Happy he dropped by.

Maybe he followed you … just took awhile to find you up there …??

Wow! That is cool. I went and looked at 2 of my bird guides with range maps and found that your sighting is fairly uncommon.
