Sugar Swirl

Luscious morsels
tantalizing taste buds,
elevating blood counts, craving
Sweetness filling
lack, and emotional
high – chocolate as substitute,
savour, swallow,
deny empty spaces,
forget no-one ever calls you

(Written for Dark Side of the Moon’s 5-line poem challenge: Β Cinquain Swirl.)

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.

  1. Chocolate is my go-to to sweeten the moment. I think emotional eating can get one in trouble. Life is a balancing act between treating oneself and overindulging. I found this line very sad, “Forget no-one ever calls you.” Part of life for many elderly folks.
