Pretty

Pretty lacks commitment..
“I’m pretty sure…”
“Such a pretty ____”

It doesn’t mitigate sorrow
or revel in depths

Flavourless is pretty
a hollow word

Even less profound
when paired with nice.

  2. I have never thought about the context of usage of pretty in various sentences. This really made me stop for a moment and appreciate how the word “pretty” means one thing but conveys something else.

  8. I’m not quite ready to condemn pretty or nice when used with sincerity and appropriate to the situation. But it’s always good to strive for an expended and precise vocabulary. I like the image and poem – she’s a bit mysterious.

    1. I try to catch myself when complimenting my granddaughters – use more precise words – too many girls are trapped by ‘pretty’ and ‘nice’. My soapbox for the day, lol.
