Rust Bucket

Heart beats uncertainty
aspires to full ignition
but spark-plug corroded
motion sputters

Society abandons wrecks
junkyard-strewn forgotten
easier to turn a blind eye
than face cold reality

Not all vessels were built
for speed or showmanship.

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.

  1. Great image and another great metaphor. Once in Hawaii, we took the road to Hana I think it was called. There were abandoned vehicles rusting along the road; the car wouldn’t start so they’d just leave it there. With time, people started doing art on the abandoned cars. I loved it.

  2. This is great VJ… sad but true… and yet even in wayside wrecks, there is great beauty, and nature takes care of them too…
As always, I love your poetry. Makes me think. 💗

  3. I love rust, old machinery is something, having had a part of the farm where we parked our old machinery it takes me back. I used to look at some pieces and lament their demise. Wonderful piece VJ.
