Notorious Limerence

Regret took root
the moment
I turned you away

grew limbs
with each
empty love

your image
like an icon
taunting me

the certainty
of our perfection
carved in bark

dreams of you
branches reaching
to eternity – bliss

notorious for
self-punishment,
poor choices

still reeling
from the rejection
decades later

a limerence
crowding out
heart’s potential.

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.
