Father’s scrutiny
inspired terror,
but that night,
catching the whiff
of alcohol on
underage breath,
I spied a hint
of a sparkle –
dared say so
“Chip off the ol’ block, eh?”
“Don’t you know it,”
he winked back.

Regardless of the fear felt, that comeback showed spunk. Loved the image, VJ.

That is terrifying! I imagine seeing yourself in your father’s image for a moment scared you straight.

Indeed. I remember I was sick to my stomach right after – likely the terror.

The unexpected! Sometimes we don’t know which is scarier our expectations or the unexpected.
