Tongue Lashing

Countless, the times
I’ve spoken out of place –
words spilling unfiltered –
grading myself harshly
in the aftermath –

Yet a pauciloquent tongue
would leave me drowning
thoughts stirring
in a stagnant pool –
perhaps I’ll strive
for moderation.

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.

  1. Loved your poem. And the photo too. I’ve never been accused of being pauciloquent. “Refrain from excessive talking” was a frequent admonishment on elementary school report cards. Oh well! We gotta be who we are. Say what we gotta say. I could go on… And, no, you’re not alone. šŸ™‚

  2. I learned a new word, thanks. I so often hear people in the 50+ category state, “I just say what I think now, I don’t hold back”…nothing wrong with speaking ones mind, being thoughtful in how your mind is expressed is the tough part.

  3. I really liked the poem, VJ. Your first stanza – I’ve been there. And now I write more than I speak. I also find talking to one person at a time ( no groups) helps me filter my words
(be more thoughtful). Second stanza – I loved your Latin turn of phrase – a perfect fitšŸ˜Š
