Even Ghosts Yearn

Natural light preferable
to artificial – not the harsh
fullness of noonday sun
but softly filtered rays –
luxurious…
inviting

Love too, should be subdued,
gentle as a zephyr –
not mythical, but yielding…
mindful
not worshipful nor boastful
but comforting…
warm

I am waning light
the mistral wind wafting
no longer a force of nature
but smoke, spiralling
vanishing into non-existence

And yet,
even as shadows spread
I yearn – heart
beating true
not lost,
not forgotten,
but withdrawn…
humbled

passion mellowed
by years of constructing walls –
grit and tar –
scar’s long buried
save the limping gait
of a ghost.

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.

  1. Oh wow, VJ! I believe this is the first time I heard you speak. Your have such a lovely voice and cadence. Beautifully written as well. This excerpt currently speaks to me…

  2. Beautifully presented!
The combination of the image, your reading, and the poem presented – it really touches me on so many levels. I showed your post to Younger Daughter (an aspiring poet) as a lovely idea for presenting her work.

My favourite lines which really captures where I am right now:
    “I am waning light
    the mistral wind wafting
no longer a force of nature
    but smoke, spiralling
    vanishing into non-existence”

  3. This says it all – passion mellowed
by years of constructing walls, grit and tar
scar’s long buried, save the limping gait
of a ghost. Muses of emotions conveyed in this poem. 🙂

  4. Absolutely beautiful – and beautifully read! I’m drawn especially to the spiraling smoke … rising higher and thinning/blending with surrounding All … this resonates as a glorious escape!

      1. Yikes – 5 surgeries on the same knee? I tense at the thought. Fingers crossed for both of you that Ric’s recovery this round can be complete. (If only bodies could be predictable!)

      2. Thanks Jazz. Hard not to be worried. This is the knee the became infected – he’s still on mutli anti-biotics. They are talking about sending him to our local hospital for rehab which will help both our spirits.

    1. Thank you. Btw, thought I was following you, but see that it didn’t take. Tried again, and it still didn’t work. Not sure if it’s me or you? Have you had trouble with followers.

      1. 😍thanks for your promptness, VJ.
honestly… it happened sometimes but only because I prefer to be notified for each post of the person I follow, especially to not lose any post shared; also, because I opted to be notified when comments arrive… [it’s enough for not getting my mail loaded too much]; [so I guess depends on options… in case [if] the WordPress platform is 100% functionally] 😉
