If I measure progress
by “used-to’s”
illness and age win
I used to play tennis
speed and muscle
ease of ambition
This place, the nexus
of how life has changed,
teaches me appreciation
Frost in my veins
permanent, warmth
of memories aglow.

Well said, VJ! My motto – forget yesterday and live for today and don’t worry about the morrow. ❤️

VJ, I have read, from more than one source, that acceptance and flexibility are foundational for health and longevity. Your poem reminds us to not dwell on the past, but to honor and appreciate what we can do in the now. Beautiful image.

Memories can be very powerful, depending on how we approach them.

So true, and often lacking truth, subjective.

Yes, that subjectivity can be very deceptive.

To be honest as well written as this post is and I love the picture ….the idea of loving life through memories scare me…..I think I am around the age where it has only just started… looking a lot of good things in life in my memories…and everything feels like another lifetime…I am greatful for all those memories but also so long to go back once in a while …

I know what you mean. I once had a very active life – teacher, coach, involved in my children’s life – no time for memories. Then illness confined me to bed for three years, and all I had was memories – some warm, many frightening. Life has improved, but with covid and disability, I live a very sedate life. Attitude, I’ve found, is the only thing I can control. I seek the good memories now.

My heart goes out to you…I am in awe of how you have controlled your attitude in such trying times, instead of letting it get controlled by fate. Sending you much love and good thoughts ♥️

Better make and store up some great memories. Life comes at you hard and fast so it’s cliche but true; it is better to try something you’ve always wanted to do, if it fails you can laugh with people who love you, if you succeed there will be no regrets for not trying.

Thank you for that reminder today
You have no idea how much I needed it today…!!!

I hope it helps. Regret for what you didn’t take or try is hard when you are on the far side of middle age.

Sometimes those warm memories can momentarily unthaw the frost and let us fly on a dreamscape of past glories. I do miss bike riding.
