Foolish Heart

Compare every love to first
unrequited – a poetess
obsessed – regret, longing

No wonder I lack roots
goodbyes stack up
like cardboard mannequins

There is no presence in yearning
I am automaton, disengaged
heart chained to fantasy.

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.

  1. I LOVE THIS! It takes a foolish heart first to ever become a wise heart. Or at least I hope that’s the case. I’m still falling into the foolish heart stage too often. Hopefully, better day ahead. But … back to the poem. So many good lines, V.J.. Like this: “heart chained to fantasy”. We’re all chained to something, and the key is breaking through out bondage. Oh, this one really works on so many levels. Pure poetry!

      1. I think you told me something of that before. You used to write many love poems and then you got a bit sick of it, yes? Well, yes the love poems always keep flowing no matter what happens. Like you said: “hard to shake!”
