Overcoming

Feet firmly planted
earth centred
releasing a dam
of backlogged emotion
awaiting rhythm’s return

Does no good to cower
we either suffocate
in a melange of fear
and pain, or find a flow
that carries us triumphant.

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.

  1. VJ, Did you paint that? For some reason I got all choked up, it certainly touched some personal chord in me. I have a tree outside my house that looks EXACTLY like that – something I’ve been subconsciously channeling in my work since ages.
I love the powerful message of hope the poem ends with. šŸ’•
This is so beautiful. Your readers are gifted.

    1. Oh, Isha. I get it. This is actually a photograph of my tree at sunset. I feel as if she called me here, to this place, and looks over me. I play with photographs to make art, and sometimes paint. She has been replicated in much of my work. Thank you for your kind words.

      1. That’s so beautiful to know. How glorious. My grandfather used to paint photographs, he only showed them to me about a year ago and I was fascinated by how even a photograph can be altered or dare I say – ‘art’ered? Silly. I know. šŸ™‚
        Thank you.
This is a masterpiece by the way. The tree chose her artist well. Thank you.

  2. This is a powerful poem! I read it, then reread again and again. I love this poem, for myself itā€™s a beautiful illustration of letting go and then the surprise of filling up with an unexpected essence of such peace. Beautiful image! Is it watercolor? Thank you for such inspiring work, again, love this.

      1. You are so right, at least I continue experience it as a cycle. No single sure-fire sweep in my experience, and if that were a possibility I would probably miss out on a lot of the wisdom and have to repeat it! Great treatment of the photo, a bit mystified how you did that, and tickled with how gorgeous it is šŸ˜. Again, great work all-around!
