Walnut Tree

One tree –
a solo sentinel –

Take comfort,
says she,
beneath my boughs

But I am hungry
balk at simplicity
silence adverse

Till fate arrests me
legs no longer fleeing
the great Walnut my saviour.

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.

  1. A solo sentinel… lovely expression. I like your and Benjamin’s convo about the piece also. I have or had a tree that I felt was a solo sentinel and yet somehow I wandered from it also. Though that tree never beckoned to me or ask that I stay near it. It just *was*, somehow. Cool poem, makes me think.
