Teach Me

Teach me reverence
am losing ground
children adulting
mothering in a void

Teach me acceptance
disability’s waters flood
I’m in the margins
an afterthought

I concede life changes
release control – passion
begs an outlet; I am worn
but I am open. Teach me.

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.

  1. Wow…. gave me the connection tingles. So beautifully written. The second stanza especially, the soft rhyme there… I love your way of structuring, neat and clean.

  2. These words; ” I am worn but I am open. Teach me.” What a beautiful surrender into the divinity of humbleness! You set a great example for us all to follow! ๐Ÿ™‚ โค

  3. This is a stunning poem, V.J. I love the rhythm, the fluid form. I think my favorite line is “I am worn/
but I am open. Teach me”. I, too, want to be open to the lessons of the universe. You made me smile in the midst of sadness. Thank you.
