She Who Stalks

Globules of rain
hit the window
panes sloshing

Day has not yet broken
the sun held captive
unforgiving clouds

A ghostly figure
perches mid tree
leers eyeless

I recognize
feline contours
fearless slink

A daemon stalker
We’ve wrestled before
Have I summoned her?

She shifts
haunches easing
into pounce

Not today, Lord
I pray aloud
Not today!

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.

  1. Really enjoy the mystical element to this one. Though I wonder if the daemon has been summoned or not, or if it’s even there? Or it’s just the feel of it being there.

    1. The term “daemon” originates from Greek mythology. They were thought of as lesser gods – not bad in terms of modern religion – more mischievous. Their purpose, as I understand it, is to shake us from our complacency. I have encountered this being in my dreams frequently and one other time in waking reverie. Mixed blessing, I’d say – don’t need anything else to deal with right now, lol.
