Consciousness commands
a shift of focus
tired of the clash of colours
stimulation overload
my muse is leaning towards
the nuance of black and white
A study of shadows
and shading
and how light
arouses the soul
Speak to me in subtleties
she whispers
in tones suggestive
of hidden depths
I am listening
And so I submerge myself
clear the palette of vibrant hues
and take up the lowly pencil
seek the promise
in a colourless world.
(For Reena’s Exploration challenge:ย a colourless world.ย Sketch my own.)
That third stanza is killer, VJ! Loved it all. ๐

I like your poem very much, for the reasons your other commenters have noted. Looking at anything using a different lens is always revealing, particularly a subtle lens.

Beautiful sketch and deep meaning. Sometimes black and white help simplify things.

What lovely scene you’ve created, V.J. โค There are so many shades of grey to discover when creating with black and white. In monochrome, the bare bones of an image are revealed, filled with textural delights. I find that converting a photo to monochrome can reveal an interesting world beyond colour, where shadows and light are key elements. ๐

Exactly, Olga. There is much to explore without the noise of colour. Thanks.

Everything looks worse in black and white?

No! When stripped of the distraction of colour, there is more to appreciate. (Your photography might have taught me that btw)

Profound, as usual! How many colors do black and white conceal in them?

This really grabbed hold of me: “my muse is leaning towards / the nuance of black and white”. A fitting title.
